Tips For Repairing Hardwood Flooring

Here are some easy tips to follow and think about for your repairs:

  1. High traffic areas are most prone to wear and tear. These spots often have the varnish or polyurethane coat wear down first leaving a rougher (and more exposed) surface of the wood floors. If you don't take care of this quickly, the floors can easily be scratched and dented.

  2. Test your stain or polyurethane on a small area of your repair before coating the entire section. Not all urethane's and stain's are perfect matches to what you have existing. It's always crucial to test the new stuff right next to the existing stuff to get a match. We've seen this happen far too often that people jump the gun and stain/finish a section and it's obviously a shade off. Don't do that! Test small and fix it until it's perfect.

  3. Light scratches might not need a full repair. If it's just scuff marks from shoes or pets, you might be able to just DIY refinish your floors and make them look like new. Again, testing here is crucial because each situation is different.
